Sequins Galore

12/10/2014

In White Borders & Chanel, I wrote about what I wore when I attended the Malam Pemasyhuran Presiden 2015 of Kelab Bakti Gunung Keledang.

During the dinner, the members would perform. Every year, they would also have a segment for their kids and their wives. And every year that I do attend the dinner, I would perform. Usually I would dance or sing or dance and sing. In 2011, I choreographed a tribute to MJ and performed with my ever-changing band with Ariff Arshad, Hadi, Zafiq and others. But since I'm all grown up, they have chucked me into the ladies group, as I sub for my mother. Lol.

This year, they wanted to stage a Hijab Style fashion show and the next thing you know, I'm on the list to walk on stage. This was backed by the fact that I had a 10-page spread in Hijab Fesyen magazine.

I was so shy, I'm not kidding. But I was lucky that my sister was joining in as my partner. The next thing you know, we were dressed in sequins, walking in front of the The Sultan of Perak and the Raja Permaisuri. I have been performing in front of them since forever but since entering UIA, I have never really performed. I miss it, of course. Especially dancing, my favourite performing art which 'sisters' cannot do. Gah. Talk about cheerleader turned hijabi.

Anyway, we were given the power to wear as we pleased, and I chose to go with a silver sequin bolero on top of my blush sequin skirt. The skirt is actually the main baju kurung which I received as my hantaran present during my engagement. It was by Fuzana Mokhtaza, who also designed my wedding dress for the majlis bertandang (the guy's reception).

My sister wore my black sequin dress (which she wore when meeting Taylor Swift) paired with my Syanelle Couture skirt (which I wore at the shoot for Hijab Fesyen magazine). We also wore matching shoes in different colours: silver and gold. But the skirts were so long, you can't see it. Lol.

Overall, we had so much fun with all our friends who are like family. It feels good going home.

xoxo,
Sya.
