aere x dUCK : A work of art

6/23/2015

During my recent study week, I had the chance to work with aere x dUCK in the preparations for their debut at the inaugural Gaya Koleksi Raya, an event by ANDREWS MODELS which was held at Royale Chulan Kuala Lumpur with supporting sponsors; FashionValet, POH KONG, Laura Mercier, WELLA and Snips.

While I’ve worked backstage for fashion shows before, this was by far the biggest event I had the privilege to experience as it was for the much-anticipated collaboration. I must admit, I had so much fun being able to see and feel (and even tried on) the designs before everyone else.

However, it was very hard work and not all play. I had to do so many things to prepare for the show that I had even forgotten to bring my high heels on the day! It saddens me that I wasn’t backstage throughout the show because I was also in charge of the ushering (in a way) as well as...you know...I was invited to the show as a guest too. Which is just so confusing. Lol.

The collection was designed for a more casual look than your usual glamorous Eid to keep with aere’s pride of mix & match RTW. However, the clothes can be matched to look like a modern kurung and it’s easy to be worn at all kinds of events; casual, work and glam or rather known as aerelight, aeremight and aerenight.

I was told that the inspiration of the grid-based colour blocks and lines was from the Dutch painter Piet Mondrian. One of Raja Nadia Sabrina’s (founder of aere) very first art book was of his works. His progressive works moved her and has made a huge impact on her creative choices. The major difference between the collection and the inspiration is that Piet Mondrian is known for using bold and vibrant colours. However, aere x dUCK had decided to opt for pastel hues as it is more feminine.

You might have already seen and grabbed yourself a piece (or more!) of the collaboration. I certainly have done so myself. In fact, the pastel colour blocks have already been almost sold out in the form of skirts, tops and scarves. But the dresses will be released next week, 29 June 2015 along with the Ursa top and Cerus pants!

I had so much fun before as well as during the show. After the team went backstage, I mingled around with the guests and I was ready to watch the show. Luckily, Raja Nadia Sabrina hired a videographer to capture the runway as it was exquisite. You can also see two dresses that will be released soon in the video! Check it out:

There was over 500 photos captured that day/night but I will not do a collage on the fashion show photos as it would not do justice to the individual looks that were put on. Enjoy the photos. You can shop for aere x dUCK on www.fashionvalet.com/aere as well as offline at Shoes Shoes Shoes and Modvier.

The Show:

Which is your favourite look? Mine is the second look: ARA Print Top in pink with the blue PYXIS Skirt because I love the soft blend of the colours and how it looks like a modern kurung with a belt.  The skirt is designed with functional zippers that can change your look. It can be a mermaid skirt, a pencil skirt and even a flared a skirt! It certainly is a masterpiece. Every piece can matched with each other and I would certainly bag as much as I can from this collection.

A special congratulations to the founders of aere and dUCK respectively, Raja Nadia Sabrina and Vivy Yusof. You did a great job, Nina! Thank you for giving me the chance to work with you and be part of this amazing night. May your dreams for aere come to life, insyaAllah.

xoxo
Sya.
