Flying into 2015: Five Essentials for Being Productive

1/06/2015

In my last post (click here), at 0000 Hours of 2015, I shared with everyone the two words that I hold on to in life. For perseverance. And for strength.

2015 has arrived and what an amazing year it has been! Lol. The past few days have been very productive for me, exams aside (I haven't been studying so much!). It got me thinking about how the events in 2014, my hard work and productivity, had led me to a wonderful start to this year. So I decided to make this list as a constant reminder for me to stay in the game.

1. BE A DOER

Stop thinking about it. Stop talking about it. Just DO it! If you think about it too long, the opportunity would just pass you by. If you don't do it immediately, you'll start second guessing. And you don't want that.

So if you want to model, go for the castings. If you want to start a business, there are places that you can find provider of small business loans, like kabbage.com, a resource for entrepreneurs who are striving to achieve their goals.

The other day, I went to this acting workshop just for the fun of it. And there were a few students who did not participate in the exercises even though they were there. The exercises is for us to learn. So what's the point of being there if you're not going to even try...which brings me to my second essential attitude.

2. TRY YOUR BEST.

Don't do anything half-heartedly. There's no point. If you want to do something, always strive to be number one. Always try your best. Even if you're not the best in the world, it's okay. Because trying your best is not for show. It's for yourself. To know what you can do. To know what you are capable of.

3. MOVE FORWARD.

I'm one to talk, eh? But it's the best advice I can give. Of course, you learn from your mistakes. But that's it. Learn from it and let it go. Time moves forward and that's what we have to do too. We have to move forward in order to keep up with life.

Some people may say that this is a very individualistic principle especially since it may seem like nothing affects you. But that's not how it is. Of course life affects you. But just because you fail or you fall, it doesn't mean that life stops there. You can survive it. You can do it. So move. Nothing and no one will ever wait for you.

4. RESEARCH.

I feel like a lot of people don't do their research enough (read: at all). Imagine journalists that want to interview me and have no idea I'm married. I think it's irresponsible for you to not do your research as research can guide you and simplify things that are 'complicated'. I did my research, which is why I found kabbage.com. I bet most of you haven't heard of it.

5. DREAM BIG.

In 2010, a friend told me that our brain gives out some kind of wave with every thought we have. And with every thought, we will pull the thought closer to us. Basically, if we think, "Oh, no! I'm going to be late!" Then, you're going to be late. And if you think, "I'm going to win this game." Then, you're going to win.

It sounds crazy, I know. But even in our beliefs if we keep praying for something, eventually, it will happen. And I think that it's basically the same concept, isn't it? If you can dream and think about your future success, insyaAllah, if God wills it, it will happen.

Of course, dream big doesn't mean that you laze around and daydream about what life could be. Dream big means setting a goal that seems too good to be true and working towards it.

These five essentials are very simple and most of the time, people tend to overlook them, especially me. But if you keep to this list, you can do wonders. I am struggling to juggle my life as it is: I am a wife, a law student, an intern with 1MDB-Yayasan Sime Darby, a blogger, a debater (currently not so active) and I have two lines coming up. It's crazy! But I know I can do it. I hope this list would benefit you too.
xoxo,
Sya.
